I find words

inside of birds

that fly

within my mind.



They fly around

where there's no ground

no Sun

to make them blind.



The words I find

when birds erupt

and scatter

here and there.



Are words of love

from up above

telling me

that you care.



They tell me that

you're glad I'm here

in this world

at this time.



And glad that

I find words

inside of birds

within my mind.

my first poem ... written in county jail for a contest for a little writing class they had going on to keep us occupied. the prompt was " i find words" ... it later got pblished, my only published work.

I can barely remember who

or what came before

this precious moment.



I see the solitary light

of old number Fifty Six

As she nears my end.



Tethered to the track

I lie, her fury and thunder

Deliver me.



My eyes fixed see not

As I slip away

To what has to be.



Old number Fifty Six rounds the bend

and slips out of sight

as I am lifted into Heaven's light.



Neither cold nor hungry,

I am enveloped in love's

purest form.



Goodbye to what was

and hello

to what is to be.



The blood stains on her wheels

dry to dust

as old number Fifty Six



lumbers on to her next stop.
